Goon-no-bok (Low-ranking official’s uniform)

19th centry, Joseon dynasty, L:90cm, ½W+S.L:80cm, W:49cm

Gunno-bok is an outfit for a military messenger. It is a set of a Jeonbok and another garments with side slits. It is decorated with ornaments for practicality and style. Jeonbok is short in length and small in width, and there is a thin tie is placed underarm to connect the front and the back of garment. It is made of black blue cotton fabrics. The sleeves are narrow and cuffs have additional length, Hansam. Hansam is to keep and protect secretive personal belongings. There are multiple straps made of various color fabrics are tied upon the shoulder and these are about 120cm in length. The bells are also attached at the end of the straps and it is usually dangled toward the back and used for signaling urgent messages. A navy color belt made of silk tabby is placed at the waist.
